PNG raster to JPEG in Canvas
The file you choose is decoded in this tab and re-encoded as JPEG. Transparent pixels are flattened onto white (or the canvas background)—JPEG has no alpha channel. EXIF from the PNG is not a round-trip archive.
When JPEG is the right export
Photos, email attachments, and CMSes that reject PNG benefit from JPEG. Keep the PNG if you still need transparency or lossless UI chrome. PNG to WebP is often smaller for the modern web while keeping alpha.
Quality, size, and privacy
JPEG is lossy: each export discards more detail. Very large images are capped (about 12 MB and 4096 px on an edge) so the tab stays alive. Bytes never upload to Case Modify.
Frequently asked questions
Why did my transparent logo get a white box?
JPEG cannot store transparency. Use PNG or WebP if you need alpha, or design the logo on a known background first.
Does this restore a compressed JPEG later?
No. Going PNG → JPEG is lossy. JPEG → PNG later wraps the already-lossy pixels; it does not invent detail.
What size files can I convert?
Oversized files are rejected or downscaled so the browser does not crash. Shrink huge prints first.
